This isn’t going to show you how to make a great burger but I can’t help but share one of the best burgers I’ve had in a long time. We were in NYC for a long weekend and met some great guys selling “People’s Pops” at the Chelsea Market who told us about a flea Market in Brooklyn that we went to the following day. From the Flea Market we strolled Bedford Street in Williamsburg and ate some incredible cheeses at the Bedford Cheese Shop and it was there that we got the tip on this Burger Joint. They told us it was behind Le Parker Meridien which was close to where we were staying so walked over one night. Much to our suprise it was inside the hotel, behind a full length curtain right behind the reception desk. It was love at first sight for the way we moved from a modern hotel lobby into a graffitied, down and dirty burger joint. The name was perfect and the burger I had was too. There is no messing around here. They have lucite boxes on the wall by the entrance in several languages telling you how to order and have no problem telling you to get it right or move over so the the next person in line can order! Luckily there wasn’t a line so we just walked up, followed the ordering instructions, scored a booth and within minutes had our burgers and fries. The bun must have been a potato roll, the burger, according to a man in the lobby is the only sirloin burger in NYC and was perfectly cooked. I choose mine to be topped with cheddar cheese, raw red onion as they didn’t do grilled, crisp head lettuce and tomato. I think the photos below speak for themselves. According to my NY friends, burgers are where it’s at right now and this hidden treasure along with Shake Shack that offers up a few more items and has several locations are the places to go.
